The Midwest’s energy future has never faced a more critical time period or been more clouded. The failure of world leaders to make meaningful progress at Copenhagen and the failure of congressional leaders to develop and enact a new federal energy policy has created a leadership vacuum that is being filled by the Environmental Protection Agency as well as local, state, regional initiatives.
The centerpiece of the federal legislative discussion, GHG cap-and-trade, appears to be waning in support from all public and private sectors — while support remains strong for increasing U.S. energy security, economic growth and job creation related to energy, increased efficiency and financial support for alternative energy development and research.
The fourth annual “Midwest Energy and Climate Policy Conference,” June 8-10, 2010, will be hosted at the world famous Missouri Botanical Garden and Union Station’s Marriott Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. This event will bring in experts from across the region and country to discuss federal and state energy priorities, proposed legislative and regulatory actions, energy national security issues, corporate response to carbon management, the future of coal, natural gas, and nuclear power, private sustainability initiatives, the prospect and analysis of new “green” projects and jobs, and the outlook for alternative energy research and initiatives.
This important event is sponsored by the Regulatory Environmental Group for Missouri (REGFORM), the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Missouri Energy Initiative (MEI), the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association. |
