Companies and community facilities, such as those of municipal governments and school districts, interested in cutting energy and environmental costs may want to hire one of the University of Missouri’s Pollution Prevention summer interns. Over the past two summers pollution prevention interns have saved companies nearly $500,000 in annual costs through energy efficiency, waste reduction and water projects.
In addition to energy assessments, the intern program seeks entities with projects involving water use/reuse, wastewater, stormwater, air quality, solid and hazardous waste. The program recruits top level engineering students, who receive additional training in applied engineering for pollution prevention and are then matched with company or community needs. Throughout the project, interns have the advisory support of engineering faculty. Interns work full time for 10 weeks at $15 per hour.
